A cat and dog friendship tale never fails to capture our hearts. Dogs and cats have always been portrayed in media as enemies but in real life, they get along better than some people do. One heartwarming story is about a dog, who relies on a kitten for companionship.

Kuma, who is part Alaskan Malamute and part Husky, has separation anxiety and he needs to be around someone or else, he gets very anxious. His human Sara knew she had to find Kuma a companion, but getting a second dog would be hard for her to manage. So, she decided to get a kitten instead.

Meet Tora the kitten.

Sara came across an online ad about a few kittens, but then she and her partner picked Tora the domestic short-haired cat. She told DognMeows they chose Tora because of her “cute nose.” Not much is known about Tora’s history, Sara told us, but all she knew is that she once belonged to a woman who had an Alaskan Malamute.

Although Sara was set on adopting Tora at 10 weeks old, she felt a bit nervous about Kuma’s reaction to a feline companion. What Sara didn’t expect was that the first meeting would be magical.

Tora and Alaskan Husky Kuma are the best of friends.

And it was love at first sight for these two!

When one-year-old Kuma met Tora, it was love at first sight! There wasn’t any problem at all. Kuma was all over the place but eventually he settled down and started acting like a mother to Tora. The Alaskan Husky would follow Tora around and would even groom her.

The kitten was scared of her humans at first but when it comes to Kuma, there was no hesitation at all. Sara believes Tora is comfortable around Kuma because he looks like the Alaskan Malamute that she grew up with.

Tora simply loves Kuma.

“She lived with an Alaskan Malamute dog which is why she was used to dogs when she came to us at 10 weeks old. Kuma is part malamute part husky so he looks the same as the dog she was with! Which may be why she loved him so much,” she told us.

They are perfect for each other!

It’s clear that Tora loves her canine best friend. As for Kuma, the feeling is mutual. Sara shared to DognMeows how Kuma had been around kittens when he was younger but somehow, they didn’t like him.

These two are inseparable.

“[Kuma] has encountered kittens before when my friend had 3 kittens, he wanted to play with them but they didn’t like him,” she said.

That was then. Now, Kuma has a feline friend who loves him to bits!

“He was fine with Tora from the beginning though. A bit hyper at first but once he got used to her they were great together.”

“She always looks for him and purrs while rubbing up against his legs.”
