Otitis is a typical house kitty who spent most of his life with the same family until doctors discovered that he has cysts in his ears. It has caused so much pain to Otitis and his family was left with no other choice but to give him up.
It was a painful decision for his family but they could not afford the surgery that would remove the cysts and relieve poor Otitis from a great deal of pain.
Otitis was surrendered at the Feline Rescue Association of Baltimore by his family and the staff at the shelter immediately started to raise funds for his surgery. Fortunately, they were able to raise enough money and the handsome boy no longer has his ears.
Before and after the surgery, Otitis spent time with a foster family and the cat was very thankful for the people who have helped him recover from a painful experience.
“His foster family told me that he was in so much pain with his cysts that he never played and moved as minimally as possible,” said Molly Lichtenwalner to the Dodo. “Now he’s constantly running around and playing and loving life, so much happier without his ears.”
The earless cat’s new mom always wanted to adopt an animal who is in need of extra love and attention. She used to have a deaf sheepdog and she knew how great it is to have a pet that has special needs.
“When I came across Otitis, I knew he was the perfect cat for me,” she said. “He was an older, special needs cat that I knew needed the home and love that I absolutely knew I could give him. I found out later that many people asked about him, but no one ever put in an application for him – I was the first.”
Otitis is already deaf because of the ear removal, however, that did not take away his positivity in life. Although he is already 10 years old, the adorable cat is playful and has a “very sassy but loving attitude.” He also loves to be around people.
Lichtenwalner said that Otitis is currently the highlight of her life and the cat has given her a different perspective on how to live life.
“He is by far the best thing that ever happened to me,” Lichtenwalner said.
Otitis the earless cat definitely reminds us all that no matter how hard your life today, there is always another chance for happiness. You just need to continue living.
