When this poor cat was just a year old, his family brought him to a local animal shelter because they said they didn’t like his attitude. They said he was too playful and had behavioral problems, and so they decided they didn’t want him anymore — and even asked the people at the shelter if they would put him down.
“The shelter was appalled at the idea of someone wanting to put down a kitten just for being a kitten,” Alaina, Odin’s new mom, told The Dodo. “Instead, the shelter took him at that time.”
Meet Odin the one-eyed cat!
The adorable cat was visibly neglected and had a severely infected eye when he was taken in by the shelter. It was causing him an intense amount of pain, and eventually, the shelter decided the best thing to do would be to remove it, and so sweet Odin became a one-eyed cat.
Despite missing an eye and growing up in an abusive family, the volunteers knew that Odin would make an incredible cat for any lucky family. He temporarily went to live with a woman who worked at a vet clinic who unfortunately couldn’t keep him long-term — and that’s how his future mom found out about him.
“I just knew from my roommate that her friend had a ragdoll who was missing an eye that needed a home,” Alaina said. “So we met him and were told the story of him. It was so upsetting to hear what he had dealt with, and the love he needed going forward. We decided to adopt him and bring him into our family.”
It was definitely loved at first sight. The kind-hearted woman knew right away that the sweet Odin is the right one for her. All she has to do is love him and Odin will love him back unconditionally.
She decided as soon as she met Odin that he was meant to be in her family, and immediately brought him home. Knowing what his former family had said about him and the fact that he is a one-eyed cat, Alaina wasn’t sure how the sweet kitty would adjust to his new life — but so far, he’s proven himself to be the absolute perfect pet.
“He’s a big lounger, especially near the screen door,” Alaina said. “He likes to look out and see what’s going on, and you’ll see him in multiple windows checking out birds. He also surprisingly likes to hop in the shower with you and take one himself! He’s very quirky. Overall, he’s a big sweet fluffy baby.”
Odin’s new family is obsessed with him, and can’t believe anyone would ever want to give him up. Having only one eye doesn’t seem to slow him down at all, either, and he’s just like any other typical cat — sleepy, a little sassy and eager to be loved.
This beautiful cat was almost put to sleep just for being a playful, energetic little kitty. Now, he’s found the best people who love him for exactly who he is.
