People rarely see a cat going to school; however, this adorable ginger cat is not your typical house kitty. This happy student cat loves attending classes every single day along with his human classmates.
The school administration is so happy with this cat that they decided to give him a student body card and made him the official campus cat of Leland High School in San Jose, California.
Meet the popular campus cat, Bubba!
Not only does this ginger cat like to attend classes, Bubba also loves to hang out with the students inside the campus. He also loves to attend sporting events and other student affairs at the school.
Although Bubba is being treated as one of the students at the campus, he can do things other students can’t. The cat can roam around freely at the school’s halls during class.
“If he wants to be excused, he doesn’t have to raise his paw; he just meows.” (Mercury News)
According to Bubba’s human mom, the ginger cat is really loud. Amber Marienthal, who lives behind the school, adopted him in 2009 but the adorable kitty was not really happy being a house cat. He wanted to be with the students so they open the door for him.
Just like any other students, Bubba comes home every day after school and wakes up early to go to his first class of the day.
Bubba waits by the door every day for school to start. “Open the door meow!”
“The students at Bret Harte petitioned to have a statue erected in his honor.”
Unfortunately, the school did not grant the petition; however, the students are pretty hopeful that the school will grant it someday.
“He’s really social and he has no fear,” Marienthal said.
“One teacher made the mistake of buying treats for him,” Marienthal said. “Bubba would meow for treats.”
The cat also has his own locker!
“We’d love it if they let him do cap and gown in 2017,” Marienthal said. “That’s the group that’s been with him through Bret Harte and Leland.”
“He waits for school to start, and he doesn’t come home until all the sports are done,” Marienthal said.
“Awaiting the arrival of my people.”
Bubba is happy being a student. He wants to be with his human friends every day.
He encourages his human classmates to never miss school!
“I officially graduated High School yesterday, along with 436 awesome kids (many of whom adore me). Although I couldn’t walk the stage (impossible due to locale), I was there in spirit. But don’t worry, Leland, just like Arnold, “I’ll be back!””
“I have the BEST fans. Thank you to Anne for my congratulatory card and my cat nip toys! I’ve clearly already sampled the toys.”
Now, everyone wants to be like Bubba!
