This is Charlie the rescue cat. He was saved by his human family when he was just 3 months old. Although he is funny and a playful cat, this adorable kitty has the sweetest personality. Six months ago, his family discovered that Charlie has been leaving things on the same spot every morning and they couldn’t figure out why. As it turns out, the generous cat was just trying to give gifts to his loving human owners.
“In the beginning, all we noticed was that once in a while we would find one of his favorite toys near the top of the basement stairs, which we had to pass to get into the kitchen each morning,” Beth Tivol, Charlie’s mom, said to The Dodo. “We figured he had been playing with it during the night and had just left it there. As time went on, one of his toys wound up there almost every morning. We learned to step over them.”
Charlie’s family was really having a hard time understanding why the cat keeps on leaving toys on the same spot every day. Frustrated, Charlie up the ante by leaving more things he found around the house on the same spot.
“Eventually things that weren’t his usual toys started appearing,” Tivol said. “A hair tie. A pen cap. A twist-tie that had fallen to the ground the night before that we hadn’t been able to find. Yet another hair tie. It was rather convenient, but we thought they were just little things that had caught his eye. Some days when he had something that he must have thought was particularly awesome, we’d find him sitting in the doorway expectantly. After a few more weeks of this we finally figured it out. He was leaving us gifts!”
Eventually, the family understood what sweet Charlie was trying to do and everyone gets excited every morning to find out what the cat had left for them on that same spot.
Here are some of Charlie’s gifts…
An electrical tape
A straw and some other things
“I think the bow came from under the sofa, and I know the drill bits were on the workbench next to our drill press, but the McDonald’s straw is a mystery,” Tivol said.
Charlie is so thankful for being rescued by his human family that he thought of giving them gifts every single day.
Even a pair of shoes
“I have to say, getting up in the morning is entirely different now,” Tivol said. “Did Charlie bring us something today? Is it one of his toys, or something special? The anticipation is actually a bit exciting and rather heartwarming! It’s a fantastic way to start the day, and we are so grateful for our Charlie Kitten.”
