Prior to being rescued at 3 years old, a cat named Sophie was in a really bad situation. The rescue kitty was being stuffed in cramped cages along with other animals. Fortunately, an animal organization called ARL or Animal Rescue League of Boston took her in and the group was able to find a new family for her.
Despite what she has gone through, Sophie is incredibly sweet and loving kitty who just wants to be around her human parents. During the first few nights of being adopted, the adorable cat would sleep on top of the dresser and stay there the entire night.
“I tried to see if she would sleep in our bed but she insisted on always sleeping on the dresser,” Christiana Viscusi said. “So after a few nights, I cleared off the dresser and put her bed there. She’s been going up to her bed when we go to bed ever since.”
Sophie’s bed today is nothing like her sleeping cage before she was rescued. The rescue kitty now sleeps in a miniature version of a human bed with its own rotating sets of comforters and sheets. What’s amazing is she will stay in her bed the entire night after her human mom puts her in a cozy bed.
“She sleeps there the entire night all tucked in,” Viscusi said. “She gets up only once around 3 a.m. for a snack, then heads back up to her bed until my alarm goes off in the morning.”
Sophie has become a celebrity after Viscusi created an Instagram account for her. Some people even question its authenticity as they thought that Sophie’s mom is forcing her to pose in the bed so she can take pictures.
However, the rescue kitty really does sleep in her own bed every night, so she can be near her human parents all the time.
Sophie also wants to spend more time outside her own little space.
“If I even say, ‘Sophie wanna go outside?’ she will come running and sit down to get her harness put on to go outside,” Sophie’s human mom said. “She could spend hours outside monitoring the yard. When I get home from work she’s waiting at the door and circling me to go outside. We have a routine where we go outside for at least an hour when I get home because I know she’s anxiously been waiting all day.”
Viscusi noticed that a neighbor cat has been following Sophie since she started to take her outside. The cat would follow them everywhere they go until it became obvious that both may have known each other in the past.
It turned out that the neighbor cat named Scottie was also rescued from the same hoarding situation Sophie was taken from.
“It’s very possible they were at the same place and each put in different shelters, but I really don’t know,” Viscusi said. “Just makes us wonder. Especially because Scottie’s owners said he hasn’t gotten along with any other cats and are shocked at how much he loves being around Sophie.”
“Every time we are outside when he is, he runs right over to hang out,” Viscusi said. “In the summer it’s several times a week. If he sees us on our balcony from his lawn he comes over and cries up at us then goes and sits at our backdoor waiting for us to bring her out. It’s really cute.”
Despite her rough beginnings, Sophie is very sweet and loving cat. She also seems to be thankful for what she has – a forever family and some really nice bed.
