Stray Dog Nobody Wanted Returned To Shelter Twice Was Trembling In Fear In His Kennel

A kind-hearted mother-of-one named Melissa Davis lives in a house full of pets. She had no intention of adopting another puppy until she saw footage of a poor neglected dog and heard his heartbreaking story. She knew she had to do something and give this stray dog another chance in life.

Meet Chevy the dog!

This poor stray dog was diagnosed with heartworm and had horrible hair loss all over his head when rescuers found him. Fortunately, volunteers at the shelter did not give up on him until he got healthy and was put up for adoption. Chevy got adopted in March 2016.

However, the adoption did not go well for both Chevy and his owner. People from the Pet Resource Center immediately recognized the bulldog when a video of a stray pup was shared at Pasco County Animal Services in Land o’ Lakes, Florida.

They tried to communicate with his owner but they never came to claim the poor doggy. When they took him to the shelter, Chevy was shaking in his kennel and refused to respond or even move.

The video was shared thousands of times until it reached Davis and by Bill Gray, the director of the all-breed rescue Second Chance Friends, Inc.

“I was nervous about taking Chevy into my home, as I have four older dogs and two cats, but something about him just spoke to me,” Davis told The Dodo. “I had also recently lost another American bulldog that had come from Pasco County Animal Services, so there was some sentimental value in taking Chevy in as well.”

The Davis family did not plan on keeping Chevy permanently, but that changed rather quickly.

“I did not need another permanent member for my canine family, but there was simply no way that I could let him go,” she said. “He has never had an accident, chewed anything that he wasn’t supposed to or caused a single issue in or outside of my home.”

Thanks to the Davis family, Chevy will no longer have to worry about surviving another day in the streets.

“Chevy’s story is part of my Pit Bull Picture Project. The goal of the project is to show how goofy and lovable pit bulls can be to inspire more adoptions.”
