Police in Auckland, New Zealand was on high alert last week following a disturbance call from someone about a “small orange and white ball of fluff” trying to cause accidents on a busy Southwestern Motorway.

When they got to the scene, they found the cutest suspect they have ever seen – an adorable tiny kitten.

“Unfortunately she was spooked by the approaching officer and quickly bolted across three lanes of live traffic,” police said on Facebook. “She narrowly avoided the worst.”

The police had no choice but to temporarily shut the entire stretch of highway down. The motherless kitten was trapped on a small strip in the center of the freeway and authorities were having a hard time getting to her.

“In all, it took a little over a half an hour for them to get her,” Shelley Nahr, media coordinator for the department, told The Dodo.

When they finally got near the little fur ball, she suddenly disappeared and caused another commotion.

One officer searched for the cat everywhere and was about to call it a night until he heard a beautiful sound.

“He searched high and low and found nothing,” police said. “Until he heard the faintest meow coming from the dashboard.”

The tiny kitten had managed to squeeze herself up into the dashboard. They had to go to a local mechanic to remove the whole dashboard to get her out.

Authorities brought Winky to a local cat shelter where she was given the things she needed. Fortunately, a woman who heard about her story called in and offered to adopt her.

“She now lives with her new owner and her three daughters,” Nahr said. “They have a bulldog named Dobby, so they named her Winky as that is the elf’s best friend’s name in the ‘Harry Potter’ novels.”

Winky’s new human family promised that the cat would never go back to the street. They will take care of her forever!

The former homeless kitten is expected to make a full recovery after arriving with fleas and cat flu.
